Ideal Body Weight Calculator
Calculate your ideal weight range using four medical formulas (Devine, Robinson, Miller, Hamwi) plus a BMI-based healthy weight range. Compare results across multiple established formulas.
How to Use This Calculator
- Select your Gender (Male or Female).
- Enter your Height in centimeters.
- Click Calculate to see your ideal weight across four medical formulas and a BMI-based range.
Formula
Height is converted from cm to inches (divide by 2.54), then:
Robinson (1983): Male = 52.0 + 1.9 × (inches − 60) | Female = 49.0 + 1.7 × (inches − 60)
Miller (1983): Male = 56.2 + 1.41 × (inches − 60) | Female = 53.1 + 1.36 × (inches − 60)
Hamwi (1964): Male = 48.0 + 2.7 × (inches − 60) | Female = 45.5 + 2.2 × (inches − 60)
The BMI-based healthy range uses weight = height² × BMI / 10000 for BMI values between 18.5 and 24.9.
Examples
Devine = 65.8 kg, Robinson = 66.4 kg, Miller = 66.6 kg, Hamwi = 68.3 kg. Average = ~66.8 kg.
Devine = 55.2 kg, Robinson = 56.1 kg, Miller = 56.9 kg, Hamwi = 56.7 kg. Average = ~56.2 kg.
Healthy weight = 56.7 – 76.0 kg (BMI 18.5–24.9).
Frequently Asked Questions
Which formula is most accurate?
The Devine formula is most widely used in clinical settings. However, no single formula works for everyone. The best approach is to consider the range across all formulas.
What is the BMI-based healthy range?
It is the weight range for which your BMI falls between 18.5 and 24.9, calculated as height² × 18.5 / 10000 to height² × 24.9 / 10000.
Do these formulas account for muscle mass?
No. They are based solely on height and gender. Athletes or muscular individuals may weigh more than these targets while still being healthy.
