  1. Pick a Start Date using the date picker.
  2. Enter the number of Business Days to add or subtract.
  3. Choose Add or Subtract direction.
  4. Optionally check Exclude major US holidays to also skip New Year's Day, MLK Day, Presidents Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.
  5. Click Calculate to get the result date, total calendar days, and weekend days skipped.

Formula

For each calendar day, if day is a weekend or holiday, skip it.
Otherwise, count it as a business day until the target count is reached.

For subtraction, the process runs in reverse. The algorithm iterates one day at a time, checking if each day falls on Saturday/Sunday or a US federal holiday.

Examples

Contract deadline:

Signed on Friday Jan 3, 2025 with 30 business days to respond → result is Feb 14, 2025.

Payroll cycle:

Paid on Jan 15, next payday is 14 business days later → Feb 4, 2025.

Shipping estimate:

Order placed Feb 1 with "5 business day delivery" → arrives Feb 7 (skipping one weekend).

Frequently Asked Questions

What counts as a business day?

Business days are typically Monday through Friday, excluding weekends and public holidays. The exact definition can vary by country and industry.

Which holidays are excluded?

When enabled, the calculator excludes New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents' Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.

Does it account for regional holidays?

Currently, only standard US federal holidays are included. Other regional or religious holidays are not excluded.

What if the start date falls on a weekend?

The calculation begins from the start date itself. If it's a weekend, that day is treated as a non-business day and skipped.

Disclaimer: This calculator excludes US federal holidays only. For international or regional holiday calendars, additional adjustments may be needed. Always verify critical deadlines with your organization's holiday schedule.
