Semester 1

How to Use This CGPA Calculator

  1. Enter your courses for Semester 1 — course name, credit hours, and grade.
  2. Click Add Course to add more courses to the same semester.
  3. Click Add Semester to create a new semester and add its courses.
  4. Remove any course or semester using the × button if needed.
  5. Click Calculate CGPA to see your cumulative GPA, total credits, and per-semester breakdown.

Formula

CGPA = Σ(Credit Hours × Grade Point) / Σ(Credit Hours)

Each grade corresponds to a point on the 4.0 scale: A = 4.0, A− = 3.7, B+ = 3.3, B = 3.0, B− = 2.7, C+ = 2.3, C = 2.0, C− = 1.7, D+ = 1.3, D = 1.0, F = 0.0. Multiply each course's credit hours by its grade point, sum all products, then divide by the total credit hours.

Examples

Example 1: Strong Semester

Calculus (3 cr, A), Physics (4 cr, A−), English (3 cr, B+):
Grade Points = (3×4.0) + (4×3.7) + (3×3.3) = 12 + 14.8 + 9.9 = 36.7
CGPA = 36.7 / 10 = 3.67

Example 2: Mixed Performance

Biology (3 cr, B), Chemistry (3 cr, C+), History (3 cr, A−):
Grade Points = (3×3.0) + (3×2.3) + (3×3.7) = 9 + 6.9 + 11.1 = 27.0
CGPA = 27.0 / 9 = 3.00

Example 3: Two Semesters Combined

Sem 1: 15 credits, 51.0 points. Sem 2: 16 credits, 52.8 points:
Total Points = 51.0 + 52.8 = 103.8
Total Credits = 15 + 16 = 31
CGPA = 103.8 / 31 = 3.35

Frequently Asked Questions

What is CGPA?

CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) is the average of all your grades across every semester, weighted by credit hours. It provides a single number representing your overall academic performance.

How is CGPA different from GPA?

GPA typically refers to a single semester or term average, while CGPA is the cumulative average across all semesters. CGPA gives a broader picture of academic performance over the entire program.

What is a good CGPA?

A CGPA of 3.5+ is generally considered excellent and qualifies for honors, dean's list, and competitive graduate programs. A 3.0 is solid, while 3.7+ places you in the top tier. Requirements vary by institution and program.

How can I improve my CGPA?

Focus on courses with higher credit hours as they weigh more. Seek help early, use study groups, attend office hours, and prioritize assignments. Retaking courses (if your school allows grade replacement) can also boost your CGPA.
